Teide cable car
Eight minutes from 2 356 m to 3 555 m, €42 return, and the single most common reason a Teide day does not go to plan. Book the caldera floor; treat the lift as the bonus it is.
It is a separate ticket, and it is not guaranteed
Almost no tour includes the lift. You pay €42 on top, at the lower station or online, and when the wind gets up the cable car closes without warning — with no refund from the tour you arrived on. Two products in this catalogue carry the ticket inside the price instead, and one of them also promises the money back if the wind wins. Above the top station you are still 160 m below the summit: the Telesforo Bravo path needs its own permit, €15 per person since 19 January 2026, booked weeks ahead through Tenerife ON. Plan the day around the caldera floor and treat everything above 2 356 m as a bonus.

The ticket prices
Figures checked against the sources named under the table.
| Ticket | Price | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Adult return | €42 | Paid at the lower station or online, never inside a tour price by default |
| Child | €21 | Same ticket, reduced rate |
| One way | €23,50 | Walk one direction, ride the other |
| Telesforo Bravo permit | €15 | Per person, non-resident, through Tenerife ON — the summit path only |
| Permit window | 09:00–17:00 | Booked for a slot, and it goes weeks ahead |
| If the wind closes it | ticket refunded | By the cable-car operator. The tour day is refunded by nobody |
The cable car stops when the wind at the station gets up, and it does so with no notice and no pattern you can book around. The operator refunds the ticket when that happens; the tour day is not refunded by anyone, which is why every product worth booking here works without the lift as well as with it.
What is in the ticket, what is not
- The ride up and down, about eight minutes each way
- La Rambleta at 3 555 m and three short marked trails along the rim
- The view over the sea of clouds on a clear afternoon
- A refund of the ticket if the operator closes the lift on your date
- The summit. That is another 160 m on foot and its own €15 permit
- Any guarantee that it runs — the wind decides on the morning
- A refund of the tour you travelled on, if the lift is shut
- Priority: morning slots go first in winter and at weekends
Before you build a day around it
The cable car, asked and answered
How much is the Teide cable car?
€42 for an adult return, €21 for a child and €23,50 one way, paid at the lower station or online. It is a separate purchase from any tour unless the listing states otherwise.
Does any tour include the cable car ticket?
Two. Mount Teide Tour with Cable Car Ticket & Transfer at €92 — ★4.3 from 5 952 reviews — and Mount Teide Sunset and Stars Tour with Cable Car at €182. Only the first promises, in its own terms, to refund the ticket portion if the wind closes the lift.
How high does the cable car go?
From 2 356 m at the lower station to 3 555 m at La Rambleta, about eight minutes and 1 199 m of cable. Three short marked trails run from the top station along the rim.
Can I reach the summit with the cable car?
Not on the ticket alone. The last 160 m to the 3 715 m crater rim is the Telesforo Bravo path, and it needs a separate permit — €15 per person since 19 January 2026, booked for a slot between 09:00 and 17:00 through Tenerife ON.
What happens if the cable car is closed?
The operator refunds the ticket. The tour you travelled on still runs and is not refunded, which is why it is worth booking a product that is a good day at 2 000 m with or without the lift.
Should I book the ticket in advance?
For a morning slot in winter or at a weekend, yes. Beyond that the queue moves, and the wind is a bigger risk to your plan than the queue is.
Is it worth it?
On a clear day the ride over the sea of clouds is the picture people come back with. On a windy one it is a closed door at 2 356 m. Treat it as the bonus of a Teide day rather than its purpose, and it is worth every euro when it runs.
Can I walk up instead?
You can walk one way and ride the other on a €23,50 one-way ticket. Walking the whole climb from the caldera floor is a serious mountain day at altitude, not an afternoon.
