Tenerife sightseeing bus

13 products, 1 327 reviews and not one of them is a day out. This is the hour-long end of the catalogue: an open-top bus on a fixed circuit, or a tuk-tuk that goes where the bus cannot. Useful for a port call or a wet afternoon, and honestly priced for what it is.

THE SHORT ANSWER

The tuk tuk sightseeing tour of south Tenerife, and why a tuk-tuk beats the bus

The hop-on ticket is the cheapest thing here at €20, and it holds ★3.9 — the lowest rating on the whole site. That is not an accident: Santa Cruz is compact and flat, so a fixed circuit every twenty-five minutes competes with your own feet. The tuk-tuks rate ★4.6–4.7 for about the same money because they go down streets the bus cannot and stop where you ask. Take the bus for the roof, the luggage or tired legs; otherwise take Tuk Tuk City Tour at €24.

THE RATING

The hop-on bus holds ★3.9 across 175 reviews and the Puerto de la Cruz circuit ★3.8 across 14 — the two weakest ratings on this site. Both do exactly what they say; the problem is that a short circuit in a walkable city is a thin product, and the reviews say so.

SIX THINGS ABOUT THE SHORT TOURS

The sightseeing train Tenerife does not have, and four other things

01
There is no sightseeing train Tenerife can sell you
FIXPeople search for one every month and the catalogue has none. What the capital has is a tram between Santa Cruz and La Laguna — public transport on a fixed line, not a tour, and all the better for it if the old town is where you are going.
02
The hop-on bus is the lowest-rated product on this site
FIX★3.9 from 175 reviews, and the Puerto de la Cruz circuit is ★3.8. A short loop in a walkable city is a thin product. Take it for the open roof, the luggage or tired legs.
03
Every twenty-five minutes is the number that matters
FIXHopping off costs you up to half an hour of waiting each time. On a two-hour port call that is most of your visit — ride the 80-minute loop once and walk the rest.
04
Most of these are private, not shared
FIXSeven of the thirteen are sold as a private group, which is why an hour can cost €75. Check the group basis before comparing the numbers.
05
Half the family has almost no reviews
FIXSix products here have fewer than fifteen. Treat those ratings as absent rather than good, and read the review column before the star.
06
The one full-day bus rates ★2.8
FIXA seven-and-a-half-hour coach to Masca and Teide, and the worst rating on the whole site. The same day by minivan is better in every column.
07
Two of these are not in the capital
FIXThe tuk-tuks from Costa Adeje and Playa de las Américas are southern products filed under city keywords. The From column shows the real departure point.
QUESTIONS

Is there a Tenerife sightseeing train? And other questions

Is the City Sightseeing Santa Cruz de Tenerife HoHo bus tour worth it?

It is the lowest-rated product we list in the capital — ★3.9 from 175 reviews — and the reason is the city rather than the operator. Santa Cruz is flat and small enough that the loop solves a problem most visitors do not have. Take it for the open roof, the luggage or tired legs; otherwise walk, or take a bicycle tour for about the same money.

Is there a sightseeing bus in Tenerife?

Yes, in two cities. City Sightseeing runs an open-top circuit in Santa Cruz — 13 stops, a bus every 25 minutes, 09:30 to 18:15, €20 for a 24-hour ticket — and a smaller one in Puerto de la Cruz at €22. There is no island-wide sightseeing bus; the long-distance network is TITSA, which is public transport rather than a tour.

How long does the hop-on hop-off circuit take?

Eighty minutes if you stay on board for the whole loop. With the bus running every twenty-five minutes, each hop off adds up to half an hour of waiting before the next one, which is the arithmetic that decides whether the ticket is worth it for you.

Is the tuk-tuk better than the bus?

For seeing a compact city, yes. The tuk-tuks rate ★4.6–4.7 against ★3.9 for the bus at a similar price, they reach streets the bus cannot, and they stop where you ask. The bus wins on shelter, luggage and step-free access.

What does a tuk-tuk tour cost in Tenerife?

€24 for an hour in Costa Adeje or the capital, €38 for the two-hour double tour, and €75–75 for a three-hour private run out to the beaches or across the south. Most of them are sold as a private group.

Is the 48-hour ticket worth the extra?

Only if you plan to use the museums. The 48-hour version of the Santa Cruz ticket adds free museum entry and a drink; the 24-hour one is the same bus on the same circuit. In a city this size, one day is normally enough.

Does the bus go to Teide?

No. Every product in this family stays in a city or on the coast. The only full-day coach here is Masca and Teide National Park VIP Bus Tour at €75, and it holds ★2.8 across four reviews — the weakest rating on this site. The volcano is a minivan day.

Is there a sightseeing train in Tenerife?

Not as a tour product. The keyword exists because visitors search for it, but what is actually sold are open-top buses and tuk-tuks. Tenerife has no tourist train and no passenger railway at all.

Where does the hop-on bus start?

Stop 1 is on the Plaza de España, a ten-minute walk from the cruise berth. The first departure is 09:30 and the last is 18:15, and the full loop takes eighty minutes whether or not you get off.

Is the audio guide included?

Yes, on the hop-on ticket, with headphones and eleven languages, plus a separate commentary track written for children. The tuk-tuks do not have audio guides — you get a driver who talks instead, which most reviewers prefer.

Can I take a tuk-tuk in Costa Adeje rather than the capital?

Yes, and it is where the best-reviewed ones are. Double Tuk Tuk Tour at €38 and Secret Volcano Tuk Tuk Tour at €24 both leave from Costa Adeje and hold ★4.6–4.7 across the biggest samples in this family.

How many people fit in a tuk-tuk?

Most are sold as a private group rather than per seat, which is why an hour can read as €75. Check the basis before you compare it with the €20 bus ticket: one is for your party, the other is per person.

Is any of this good in the rain?

The bus is open-topped and the tuk-tuks are open-sided, so neither is a wet-weather answer. The honest wet-afternoon products on this island are the museums in the capital and the guided town walks, not these.

Can I use these with a cruise stop?

They are close to ideal for one. Ships dock about ten minutes from the Plaza de España, the hop-on circuit starts there, and an hour on a tuk-tuk covers the three buildings people come for. For a full day off the ship, though, the honest answer is to leave the city entirely.
