THE VERDICT

One of only two boats we have found that puts a guarantee in writing: no whales or dolphins, and the operator reschedules you free. Most of this harbour sells you the odds instead. That is worth much of the gap to the €28 boats — and so is the hydrophone, which turns a sighting into something you hear as well as see.

THREE HOURS, OR FIVE

What each option actually contains

at the dock Meet the crew at Dock 8 in Puerto Colón for the safety briefing
first hour Out into the Teno-Rasca Whale Sanctuary, past Playa de las Américas and Los Cristianos
the middle With the residents at the 60 m the decree allows — and the hydrophone, which puts the sound on deck
midway Anchored for the swim and snorkel stop, with sandwiches and drinks
5-hour only North to the Los Gigantes cliffs and the bay at Masca, reachable by sea and little else
5-hour only The meal and wine that separate the long option from the short one

From the operator’s own description and itinerary, read 14 September 2026. The first four stages are on both options; the last two only on the five-hour trip.

IN DEPTH

The detail behind the verdict

This is two products under one listing, and the difference between them is not subtle. The three-hour trip is the whale channel, a swim stop, sandwiches and drinks. The five-hour trip adds the coast beyond it — the Los Gigantes cliffs and the beach at Masca, reachable by sea and almost nothing else — plus a meal and wine. If you only want the animals, take the short one and save the money; if you have not seen the west coast from the water, the extra two hours are the cheapest way to fix that. The catamaran is eco-certified by a third party and sails without engines when the wind allows, which is the rare case where the green wording on a listing describes something you can actually notice on deck.

Questions about this cruise

Is the whale and dolphin eco-cruise worth it?

At €47 it is roughly €17 more than the ninety-minute boats, and it buys three things most of them do not have: a written guarantee of a sighting or a free reschedule, a hydrophone, and a swim stop with food. ★4.6 from 5 736 says most people think that trade is fair.

What happens if we do not see any whales?

The operator reschedules you free, availability permitting. It is the only listing in our catalogue that commits to that in writing — everywhere else a blank day is simply a blank day.

What is the difference between the 3-hour and the 5-hour trip?

The animals are on both. The five-hour option adds the coast north of the harbour — the Los Gigantes cliffs and the bay at Masca — plus a meal and wine. If you have seen the west coast already, the short option is the better buy.

What is the hydrophone for?

It puts the underwater sound on deck, which is how you notice a pod before it surfaces. Pilot whales are vocal animals and it changes the trip from watching to listening.

Is lunch included?

Sandwiches and drinks are included on both options. The five-hour trip adds a proper meal, and here the listing contradicts itself — the inclusions call it rice and chicken, the description calls it pasta salad and fresh fruit. Ask the operator before you count on either.

How much is snorkel gear on board?

The listing gives two prices in two places — €15 in the inclusions and €20 in the know-before-you-go notes. Bring your own if you have it, and budget for the higher figure if you do not.

Is it wheelchair accessible?

Folding wheelchairs, yes. Electric and non-folding wheelchairs are on the not-allowed list, which is a distinction worth catching before you book.

Where does it leave from?

Dock 8 at Puerto Colón in Costa Adeje. Several operators work that harbour, so find the dock number rather than the harbour entrance.

Can I cancel?

Free cancellation up to 24 hours before the start time, per the listing checked on 14 September 2026. That is separate from the sighting guarantee, which covers an empty sea rather than a change of mind.

Is it good for seasickness?

A catamaran is the steadier hull shape and this one is large, but three to five hours is a long time on the Atlantic. The operator suggests speaking to a pharmacist before sailing, which is unusually honest advice to print on your own product page.
